What is Netalive.org?

Far from the maddening crowds, a place to kick back and lead an intelligent discussion in peace. We respectfully ask the braindeads to stay outside. (New here?)

Best Good All

Hello. I'm new here. And while I'll write to introduce myself at some point, I'd rather start with some writing exercises I've done in the past few months. See, I'm a writer, and ever since I finished my classes in November I've suffered from massive amounts of writer's block. But things are getting better, slowly but surely.

Let my recent writing introduce me. We'll start with some exercises from Writing Alone and With Others by Pat Schneider, 6-24-04.

This one uses a line from (...)

I believe it was Gertrude Stein who said, "America is my country, but Paris is my hometown."

For me, America is my country, but Tokyo is my hometown. After my grumblingly long-winded rant from the other day, I'm ready to admit all the things I love about being here.

In no particular order, a nonsensical tribute to Tokyo, Japan. What I like, what I love, what makes make me laugh, smile, or roll my eyes...

-hidden, dilapidated Shinto shrines tucked in between steel and glass corporate (...)

Some months ago I happened to end up in my favorite bookstore again. Standing in front of the "fantasy" shelf I kept looking for the more fat ones as usual. Nothing much I didn't read yet, though. Suddenly my view got stuck to something called the "The Dragon Reborn" by a guy called Robert Jordan, an 800 page beauty. I picked it up and read a few lines and it felt okay. To my surprise I realized from the listing on the first page this was volume 3 in his "Wheel of time" series. Never heard of (...)

No, this is NOT going to be 'yet another rating whine', but something quite different.

This is just something I noticed when reading a thread, starting with an entry written by majic, followed by a small answer by MelMel - obviously, majic did like her answer, no matter the tiny it was, because of his positive reply to that, so I rated it 'Excellent' instrad of not doing so at all.

This brought me thinking about the fact how we NAOies rate a post - maybe you should wait sometimes, just to (...)

What, I would like to ask, is wrong with cooking food before you eat it?

A few weeks ago, I went to Nagano to stay at the home of a friend of mine. It was incredibly nice of her to invite me, and her parents were wonderful, gracious hosts.

However. One of the first questions her mother asked was "What do you like to eat?" And my friend proceeded to go off on a tale of all the things I don't eat, because she has decided, from watching me eat Japanese food, that I am the pickiest eater (...)

So as I said in my profile I'm a telesaleswoman. *sigh* Can anyone tell me whether they've actually ever bought something from a telemarketing call? The company I work for sells windows, and seriously, if you want new windows aren't you just gonna go out and but the damn things? You're not gonna wait for some 16 year-old to ring you and say 'Do you want new windows?'

But saying that I've got to know some new people throught the job, which is always good. But even better I'm getting (...)
