Best Good All

As I mentioned my apartment lies in the 8th story of an 8-story highrise (or whatever you want to call it). You might be able to imagine how happy I am about the pair of elevators that are waiting day and night for a chance to transport me along the height of the building.

Since for some reason unknown to me, social etiquette forbids it to talk to other passengers inside an elevator cabin, you have a lot of time to think while you're inside. And since the topic is (...)

Which is the saddest song you have heard in your entire life?

I'm not exactly the Man Without a Heart, but I'm no complete wimp either. Yet there is this one song that is able to tear off my defences every time I hear it. The singer worked up his mother's dead writing and singing this song and whenever I listen to it I feel compelled to call up my mother to check if she's okay.

I beg you to get and listen to this song. The text is in German, but as you can see below I took the time (...)

(This post is devoid of spoilers, but it links to something that could actually be The Mother of all Spoilers. Please be careful when reading replies in this topic as I cannot control what others might be going to reveal.)

Someone hit me with something hard: I maybe just spoiled Matrix Revolutions for me. I can't say I haven't been warned, but me being the idiot I am I couldn't resist.

Here's the (...)

I know the Harry Potter series is seen as more of a kid's series, but I suggest that everyone read it; its much more than just a kid's series.

In a word, the fifth book is excellent. Although it has a lengthy 250-300 page exposition (all of which is completely necessary), after that, the action picks right up.

***Warning, partial (to page 300 or so) plot summary below. No spoilers, and nothing that will ruin the book, just a warning though***

In short, Harry is introduced to the (...)

I first read this book when i was about 12 years old.
I considered it to bhe somehow like a warning, showing us how our world should never get. But a boy with the age of 12 IS a child...so i started re-reading it about 2 weeks ago.
And as i read on...i get the opinion that the today world has many parallels to the world described in the book.

The Story is about a future world, where humans are mass-produced in bottles, there are no Mothers and Fathers anymore, and they get different amounts (...)

A book that serves as a powerful warning to society is George Orwell's 1984.

It is set in, or around 1984, in a world dominated by an absolutist government headed by the mysterious "Big Brother". The government watches and controls ALL aspects or life: Work, leisure, love, sex, etc. It is the story of a man, Winston Smith, who cannot accept the fact that the government controls everything. It tells of his love for a woman, Julia (an illegal love), and their struggle for resistance. (...)
