To the little kitten that died today.

98% | 4

Es war, als hätt der Himmel
Die Erde still geküßt,
Daß sie im Blütenschimmer
Von ihm nun träumen müßt.

Die Luft ging durch die Felder,
Die Ähren wogten sacht,
Es rauschten leis die Wälder,
So sternklar war die Nacht.

Und meine Seele spannte
Weit ihre Flügel aus,
Flog durch die stillen Lande,
Als flöge sie nach Haus.

I'm so sad tho i've never met you.
Hope you are on a better spot now.

A really nice poem.

What happened to the kitty?

Thanks. I've found it out in the meantime. What a shame.

Re: To the little kitten that died today.

If you can be bothered, could you please please translate it into English for us non-German speakers here.

I understand it's a beutiful tribute to the kitty, and I know it'd probably be less beutiful in English, but still...please?

Re: To the little kitten that died today.

translating poems are non-sense - as this sense word goes totally lost. not to mention the poem character.

.. just look at the translation of LoTR - the poems in there have in the german translations nothing more to do with poems, they just sound edgy and ugly - maybe they should have left 'em this way they were, and not tried to translate 'em.

so goes for all other non-english poems.

Oxy's probably right - translated into English it will lose most of it's atmosphere and feeling but I'll translate it anyway, as I feel I need some exercise in translating.. And I'm doing it for the poor nameless kitty that I would have called "Senf" would I have been asked.

(You will notice it sounds stupid in English)

As if Heaven had kissed
Earth in silence, it was,
so that Earth in gleaming blossoms
would have to dream of him.

Some air went through the fields,
the spikes waved gently,
quietly the woods rustled,
so starlit was the night.

And my soul stretched
it's wings widely,
flew through the quiet lands,
as though flying home.

True, but it was still a beautiful poem despite being a heck of a lot less beautiful than in German.

Thanks. :)
