Only in America....

80% | 3

There are many things in this world that I don't understand; this is one of them. People die every day, crimes happen, serious destruction occurs, and yet have you glanced at the news recently? Michael Jackson and his child molestation nonsense. What is wrong with us? How could anyone possibly find any interest or intrigue in this severely irrelevant topic? Majority rules, I suppose.

For my next trick, I shall make you all disappear.

Re: Only in America....

So you're saying we should leave the child molesters alone because we have more pressing issues?

No, I simply think that there other things of greater import that are overshadowed by things like this.

From your post, I make the assumption you were a very fortunate child. I tried looking up the statistics on child molestation on Google...and sadly most figures were based in 1993 to 1997...surely there are updated stats out there.....and those were based on reported cases.

They estimate 60 million adults in the USA alone were molested as children, and they feel that number may be underrated.
It is estimated that as many as 40 million Americans, one in six people, experienced sexual victimization as children.

1 in 3 girls and 1 in 7 boys will be sexually victimized before age 18.
The most common ages of children when sexual abuse occurs are between 8 and 12.
Child sexual abuse is seldom a one-time occurrence, and lasts and average of 1 to 4 years.
75% to 80% of all children assaulted or abused were victimized by someone they knew.
One of five rape victims is under age 12; 10% of all are under age 5.
Over 80% of offenders first offended by the age of 30 years.

Many people are shocked to learn that it has been estimated that approximately 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 7 boys will be sexually molested before age 18. The typical serial child molester will abuse more than 360 victims over the course of his lifetime.

He is able to abuse 30-60 children before he is even caught for the first time (Dr. Gene Abel, Emory University). This abuse has affected millions of American families.

The relationship of pornography to child sexual abuse is compelling. In a study of convicted child molesters, 77% of those who molested boys said they were regular users of hard-core pornography. And 87% of those who molested girls said they were regular users of hard-core pornography

The typical child molester has four uses for pornography in the commission of his crime:

To lower the inhibition of the child by showing him/her pictures.

As a teaching tool for the child to show him/her exactly what the molester wants done.

To blackmail and threaten the child with exposure if they ever tell anyone what the molester is doing to them.

As a tool for stimulation and masturbation by the molester. They are obsessed with children. Many actually believe the experience is good for the child.

Compared with people without a history of childhood abuse, adults with a history of childhood abuse are more likely to have:
A partner with a substance abuse problem
Anxiety disorders
Chronic head, face or pelvic pain
Eating disorders
Musculoskeletal complaints
Depression
Gastrointestinal distress or symptoms
Self-Injury

Asthma or other respiratory ailments
Obesity
Eating disorders
Insomnia
Panic
Sexual dysfunction
Substance abuse;
Suicidal ideation or behavior
Pseudo-neurologic symptoms (dizziness, etc.)

Unintended pregnancy
Self-injury
Abuse their own children

There is so much more...but to boil it down.....children are very literal....they are not adults who store the past, to draw on, to ponder the wisdom of choices....they don't make abstract leaps into the future.....they obey adults or older children as a rule....they are taught it. They trust.
Therefore they are the perfect victims.

We humans are the only animal that eats its young for pleasure. We've been doing it for centuries.
How do we stop it. Should we stop it? Do we need this to survive?

As for Michael Jackson, I don't know if it was a publicity blurb put out by people he paid or he truly believed it...but it was said he saw himself as Saint Michael.....a protector of children.

Innocent he may be in this new thing.....but if so....the first accusation, he did a great disservice in how he handled the first accusation. I think it sent a message to the predators of children.

quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

Well said.

One of the more disgusting facts about our culture I discovered is the American Man/Boy Love Association, a group that promotes sexual relationships between adults and young boys. Only in America would be a very fitting statement to apply to this. Our culture, with its warped morality and understanding of human nature and wisdom, is capable of creating societies like this. Things like child abuse on such a huge scale can all be traced back to many problems, among them, our misunderstanding that the constitution is about freedom from religion. Not freedom of religion. When traditional moral ideals are removed (such as the Christian ones accepted by our founding fathers when this country was made), anything becomes not only possible, but acceptable.
