A Modest Proposal

73% | 2

All right people, I have no idea what (if any) effect this is going to have, but here's the deal:
The next two NAOees who write a post rated 'excellent' by at least three people will get a packet of chocolate. Everybody loves chocolate. :-) The choice is yours between Lindt, Suchard, Camille-Bloch, Munz-Maestrani, Halba and Frey... or just tell me "I have no idea" and I'll pick some of my personal favourites for you. In any case I promise not to just buy the cheapest one.
These are the rules:

  • If you write a post and it gets three or more green ratings (that usually means better than 90%|3), you've won.

  • Of course I'll need your snailmail address. I promise not to use it for anything else.

  • The offer is valid worldwide, except for places where there is no postal service or it would cost about ten grand to get the packet delivered.

  • The packet will weigh about 500g (how much is that in US units?) and will take anywhere from a few days (Central Europe) to 4 weeks (some places in the USA) to arrive.

  • Only ratings from users with at least two bright red stars count.

  • Only one packet per person.

Suggestion for a topic: It looks as if the quality of a discussion is anti-proportional to its distance from the border to being a flamewar... i.e. the more people disagree, the more effort they put into their posts to prove their point, but the more heated the debate tends to become. Is this more of a good or a bad thing?

Re: A Modest Proposal

Are you participating, too? You can buy the chocolate for yourself ;)

What do you mean with bright red? Do my stars count?

That wouldn't exactly be the idea of the whole thing :-)

Click the stars next to your name. You'll be taken to a page with ranking info stuff. If your current rank is above two bright red stars (where the rating power is 1), you qualify.

Lol, food-for-posts :D

[sarcasm]
i can already see where is't going. Some people will sit at their pc's 24/7 writing excellent posts, so that they don't starve to death :]
[/sarcasm]

But seriously, that's a good idea. It's surprising and funny. Keep it up. ;-)

But you know, i'm kinda afraid about the quality of a chocolate after a couple of days/weeks of transport...This might be costly, since chocolate could break or melt. :-/

I can't guarantee that everything will still taste exactly as when I've bought it, I just know that so far nobody has complained. The packet that traveled the longest so far was r_pendragon's packet which spent 4 weeks underway. For all I know she didn't require any major surgery after consumption of the sweets in question. I can guarantee that I'll only buy quality stuff with an expire date far in the future, and that I bring it to the postal office in a perfect state. I've never been a cheapskate when it comes to food :-)

Re: A Modest Proposal

Crap, I completely forgot about this. Well, people didn't complain either, so by virtue of my moderator powers, I hereby pardon myself.

Anyway, it's taken me some time to sift through all the posts written since April 27, and I think (hope) I didn't miss any candidates.
These are the posts that have been rated Excellent by at least three users with a ranking of two bright red stars or higher, sorted by date:

Discussion: Incompetent Government Breeds Extremism. by Deimos
The meaning of "home" by WASABI
Globally-motivated kids by r_pendragon
Getting married... by andromacha

So, Deimos and WASABI, if you consider me trustworthy enough to give me your snailmail address, I shall send a packet of chocolate your way.

If you don't, well, that's all right. I already know where r_pendragon and andromacha live. :-)

Re: A Modest Proposal

How about this one?

Oh I like it, but it was written before my chocolate offer, so it's not part of the 'competition'.

Re: A Modest Proposal

All right. Wasabi, your packet is underway. According to the nice lady at the postal office it should take 4-8 working days.

Deimos, I still haven't heard from you - do you want the stuff? Did my last e-mail get lost or murdered by an overzealous spam filter?
