I'm not recalling the merciless emails where I toyed with you.
I recall that I always thought you were a cool person.
I remember your stalker caused you alot of problems, but I don't recall it was the work of Dobbs, or one of his confederates. I do know that there was an actual person who made life miserable for you. Where in there would I imagine a hoax?
If it seems as I was making a certain characterization of you, well, you shouldn't read it that. It's the description of Princess We-R-Do, Queen of All UFOs, Bethrothed of the Sacred Scribe of The Church, not you, sad thou that may be.
I just thought it might be fun to have you sit-in for her...
Didn't mean to offend.

of course jael is somewhere out there stalking us;

Zen you know me well.

Well, it's not that I'm gone, not that I don't have time, other things just take priority.

But yes, every now and then I come check what people are up to.

But yes.. still here.

and I agree, NAO could use a wee bit of sprucing up.

Maybe so, but only for the sake of change for it's own sake.
Everything over here is still functional.
I for one appreciate the ease-of-use over here.
I mean, what would you change, or freshen-up?

I'm looking at Ginster's suggestions, all manner of hokus-pokus with the programming, JASN, etc. and I think, Oi! What portals will this take us down?

Maybe allow us the ability to put some neat tools on here that could allow us to change the interface.
Maybe have it so that it will randomly generate a different user interface, or making it somehow so we can tweek it our selves, like the old style synthesizers with knobs and dials, that might allow us to change the horizontal, and vertical vectors.

That would be a positive improvement.

I agree with you Zen about this place. I too love the fact that there are no ads, no pop ups on here.
This place reminds me of all those wonderful wonders of the world like the prymaids that have stood the test of time without changing.

We all have lives outside this place and we all need a place that's safe where we can speak of things that matter to each of us. I love reading the journals on here. I always have.
Sometimes I feel inclined to respond, sometimes I don't.
Like everyone else who has been writing here for a long time I have stepped away for long periods of time and then come back.

In a world where everything is prone to change sometimes faster than you can put on new socks, it's nice to have at least one thing that remains constant and isn't prone to the latest fashion or technology. I love that about this place. It's why my bat cave is here and not somewhere else.

So it's not dead, it's not dying, it's what it is, a safe place that welcomes the travelers who have been writing here for both a short time and years.

So, lets get back to this idea of redesign, evolution and development then ;)

I have Jaz hanging around in my Xing contacts, so i just gonna ask him if I or even some more folks would be allowed to plunder his code to push NAO a bit forward. ;)

Some items on the agenda "NAO 2010":

- different themes, or at least a refresh of the current one ;)
- unobtrusive Javascript, AJAX, JSON
- automated "what's best" / "what's hot" display of threads on the main page
- fixing this and that, enhancing the good UX of NAO ;)

cu all, w0lf.

Just to put in my two cents, I agree that a renewal would be great, and with the appropriate updates netalive might once again have appeal for people. It is a unique forum, and I'd love to see fresh voices renewing the community & ideas here.

I do not have the technical ability to make it happen, however, so I leave that in the hands of the capable.

I think it's mostly because poeple do not know about this forum. I have no idea how i found out about it.

It might be because it doesn't attract attention, or it doesn't care to attract any. Personally i think it's actually for the best.

I think the first time I came to NAO was in 1999 but the years have clouded my memory.

Lots of great people here! I hope all of you are doing well these days. Sorry I haven't been here in a long time. I spend the majority of my free time on FaceBook and Twitter.

Yeah, different themes, or interfaces. Wouldn't it be cool if we could adjust them ourselves, through some type of random generator. It will change everytime one visits the site.
Maybe there might be a "save" function, to keep it.
Maybe have a way to tweek the interface in various ways.

Maybe our Eliza could be introduced to Ramona, from Kurzweil. It would be nice to chat with an Eliza who actually remembers, and recalls previous conversations with members. I don't know if anyone remembers that insane conversation with Eliza I posted. But it would be cool to have an Eliza that remembers, and can interact about things related to the site itself.
OK, perhaps I'm asking for A.I. Can you do that?

This sounds interesting.

If I were going to do this I'd use C#, ASP.NET MVC / jQuery but then again I've been brainwashed. =)
