Some news

Ettena is back from her trip in Scandinavia and we're busy spending our time together and finding a room in the town where we will study in. That's why I am not spending a lot of time on the Internet right now.

I have an almost-finished update for NAO sitting on my harddisk which will add some features and squish some bugs, but I didn't get much chance to work on it for the past week. My best bet is Tuesday or Wednesday.

By the way, Netalive.org almost got a fully Zen-compliant redesign two weeks ago, but I decided not to go for it after all. I just like the current look & feel too much :)

We did everything to get into the same town - Augsburg - but we are not going to move together yet.

Ettena wants to get a magister in Arts and Education Science. I'm going to try my luck in Applied Computer Science and maybe switch over to Computer Science and Multimedia after a year.

Well, you are wrong in saying that. I am interested about it. Which countries have you visited? I bet it was pretty cold, right?

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed your holidays there. I am sure that many others on NAO want to know something about Scandinavian countries.

At any rate, I am glad that you are back. Our webmaster might get more productive... :P Okay, take it anyway you want, but it was nothing dirty.

Scandinavia

Thank you for your interest :) !

No, it was not cold at all, especially in Norway where we spent most of our time (we also drove through Danmark and Sweden); on the contrary, it was getting quite hot in the day time and since it wasn't really *cold* at night neither AND it never gets really dark in the summer (for a change it never gets really "bright" in the winter time..), we used to sit at the beach - whenever we got near one - till one o'clock at night not realizing that it was so late.

I can only recommend you to visit Scandinavia - there's so much to see and grasp - I've never seen so many different landscapes in one trip before. I also took lots of pictures; if you're interested and if Jaz could help me I could put them on NAO.. Go and visit Scandinavia! Nonetheless you should be aware of some things:

- It simply is f***ing expensive! Don't expect the "Scands" to use either Dollars or Euros, no! Except for Finland where they have the Euro, each country has their own money: Danish, Swedish and Norwegian "Kronas"! The cheepest 0,5 litre can of beer costs about 2,50 €, but it's not only alcohol which is expensive: Fuel(poor us, we were travelling in a fuel-gulping VW bus), food, clothes, stamps (more than 1€ for a postcard to Europe), just everything.

-That is why we tried to camp "wild" as often as possible which was always amusing due to the many "camping forbudet" signs that we simply ignored. Noone ever caught nor punished us for that, so we came to the conclusion that wild camping must be officially forbidden, but inofficially tolerated :D

-Christiania: To all NAOees that don't agree with NOT legalizing certain seven-leaved plants (Null?*grin*): Christiania is a very small free state right in the middle of Copenhagen, the Danish capital. As they are a free state they can have their own rules and so they decided to make "soft drugs" legal :)

-the weather: as I said it was very warm, but I think that this was first because we were lucky (that's what we were told, normally the summers are very short [only July - begin of August]) and secondly because we didn't go so far North and stayed at the coasts for the most time.

- the languages: if you don't speak a Scandinavian language don't expect to understand anything- they have such a funny writing and an even funnier pronunciation; I only learned the following (maybe most important?)words:
- Hej! = Hello!
- Takk = Thank you
- skall! = cheers!
- vi ses = bye
- elg = elk
- ja = yes
- nei = no
and maybe most-most important: Jeg shonner ikke = I don't understand ;)

- the people: almost every "real" Scandinavian is blond: it was so funny: we were standing in a city bus and looking into a 'sea' of bright-haired heads :)
Apart from that they are all very very friendly and almost everyone can speak English or at least tries to communicate with you by using hands and feet.. :)

I enjoyed the trip so much and it was so worth going there although of course I missed Jaz a lot. But(sorry this is a different topic now) I generally think that it shouldn't hurt a relationship if you don't see each other for some (not TOO long) time - it can sometimes be even healthy. I know that it is probably always harder for the one who stays at home and I admit that my Scand-time might have been a little too long to be still healthy and the thought of you, Henning, made me want go home but there was so much to watch and do in Scandinavia and we were far away from even seeing half of the main "attractions".

So my advice: Take yourself time and go Scandinavian!

Sure, just bring them over. I'll show you how it works, then you'll be able to do it all on your own for the future!

I envy you so much, Ettena. I've always wished to visit those countries. Hey, have you been to Legoland? My cousin went there when he was 23, and liked that city very much. It is completely built in huge Lego's pieces. For what I remember it is in Denmark, and close to Copenaghen.

I know some words in Finnish, because once I got to interview Mika Hakkinen (for the ones who aren't interested in car racing, well, he was a Formula 1 champion) and he was so nice to me to teach me some Finnish words.

I really want to take a trip to visit those countries, but my first place to visit is still the United States. I guess that many of you can figure out why :)

Yes, I actually did meet the flying Finn! Well I was at Monza during the race, and I visited Ferrari's paddock. I even have a picture of me on Michael Schumacher's car. I hate the German guy, but hey a Ferrari is always a Ferrari!

Anyway, I had a friend who works for Ferrari's team, and he knew also Mika pretty well. Since I've always liked him and always supported him and McLaren, he managed to introduce me to the fantastic Mika!!

Unfortunately, I didn't think about asking for his autograph, so the only thing left from that day is that picture of me on Ferrari. Sigh!
